Hopefully you won’t be replacing
your boiler because it has suddenly irretrievably broken down but as part of a
planned upgrade. If you need any help in deciding what boiler would be best for
you, I would be delighted to help you choose by explaining all of the options.
If your boiler was a trouble free workhorse you could do worse than stick with
the same make and model if it is still available as it obviously suits your
needs. You may decide on the other hand to go for a more up to date design,
perhaps a condensing boiler.
When you have some estimates
gathered together for fitting a condensing boiler there are a few things to
look for. Has the plumber included an upgrade to your gas supply (almost
certain to be necessary) and a complete flush of your central heating system in
his estimate? If not, you need to chat to him, as both of these procedure will
impact on the final cost and if you are not ready for the extra it could very
much slew your decision making process. If the upgrade and flush are not done
when necessary it can seriously shorten the life of your boiler as well as
possibly make it fail its safety check.
As a Gas Safe Registered plumber,
I am familiar with all of the health and safety regulations as well as the
actual fitting requirements and would be happy to talk you through what is
needed, with no obligation. Whoever you choose, you must be sure that they have
up to date Gas Safe accreditation, so that the system can be passed as safe
with all the necessary checks.
